Leadership & Discernment

I was looking at an paper I did on Leadership & Discernment in the Community of Christ. It was published in the Theology Colloquy collection for that year. I'm posting it on the web on Google Docs. You can go to it by selecting the hyperlink above.

Interesting paper Todd. I would be interested if you feel that we as a church have developed a better way of making decisions over the past ten years since you first wrote these words. Better yet would be to respond after the World Conference in 2010. I think you are insightful when you state that we need to use a different method than those from the business community. I thought it interesting (because I didn't know) that Robert's Rules of Order actually began as an attempt to guide discussion (can we say discernment?) in the church. Thanks for sharing.

I think there are some interest discussions and hopefully some movement in that direction. However, it seems that there just as significant of a movement for additional power to continue to accumulate at the top of the church.

The danger is for discernment to be the buzzword that is used to rationalize the decisions that the hierachy wish to happen.
